The more expensive the lubricating oil, the better?

Simply put, lubricating oil is a general term, roughly divided into two categories: lubricating oil and lubricating grease. What is the difference between the two? Simply put, it is a liquid oily substance (commonly known as engine oil), and a solid oily substance or semi-solid oily substance (commonly known as butter because it is mostly yellow); The engine oil pan contains lubricating oil, while some bearings or wheel hubs are mostly filled with grease; Lubricating oil has relatively lower pressure resistance, while lubricating grease has higher pressure resistance; Lubricating oil is used more precisely and meticulously than lubricating grease, while lubricating grease is relatively used more extensively. You can see that the worker randomly finds a tool to dig up a ball of lubricating grease and fill it into the wheel hub, while adding lubricating oil requires much care. Open the engine cover, carefully pull out the oil dipstick, and add oil from the small hole less than two centimeters away. Keep inserting the oil dipstick to see if it is in between the two markings, not too much, not too little.

So, lubricating oil is just a general term, it is also divided into many types. But basically, they can be divided into mineral oil and synthetic oil according to their different base oils, and synthetic engine oil can be further divided into semi synthetic engine oil and fully synthetic engine oil. Mineral engine oil is based on mineral oil extracted from petroleum and made with additives. It is relatively inexpensive and can provide general protection. Most of the cheaper ones on the market are mineral engine oil.

So, does being expensive mean being better than being cheap? No, only choose the right ones and not the expensive ones. That's the truth. Just looking at whether it matches your car, some expensive ones may not necessarily be more suitable for you than the cheapest, and some may even cause losses. Is there any way to make a judgment? It's simple, it's included in the manufacturer's car user manual.

Lubricants are like people's blood, and when they function normally, you won't even notice their presence. So, it's normal for you to not understand this article before reading it, but after reading it, you should try to understand it and comprehend it. As Wang Yangming once said, this flower shines brightly with you for a moment.

The development process of lubricants in China, compared to the development of automobiles in China and the formation of automotive culture in China, lubricants have gradually moved from behind the scenes to the forefront and entered the lives of the public.

However, even so, the behind the scenes hero of lubricating oil has been working for too long, and it is difficult to have a clear understanding in people's minds at the moment. No wonder, just like human blood, it silently delivers nutrients to tissues throughout the body. Without the nourishment of blood, any area will inevitably die and cause major problems. However, if we take good care of ourselves, who would notice the existence of blood? Blood works tirelessly every day?

So, you only notice it when changing the lubricating oil? Oh, the oil that was replaced is all black! So dirty! And the fresh engine oil is so clear yellow! As for the lubricating oil and grease in other places, they are mostly the same. Fresh time shines bright and clean, but after using time, it becomes dirty and dirty, making it impossible to look directly at. It shows how much contribution these behind the scenes heroes have made. It's really 'only ghosts know what they've encountered'!

How to distinguish car lubricating oil (engine oil)?

Identify with the naked eye. Pour the engine oil into a transparent cup and observe. If the oil has good transparency, no suspended solids, no sediment, and no impurities or clumps, it is a relatively good oil.

Smell the smell of oil. Generally, engine oil has a mild odor. If there is a strong odor, especially from fuel, it may be from recycled oil.

Check the quality level label of the oil. According to API standards, the later the English letters in the quality level label, the better the performance (for example, SL level is better than SG level, CF-4 level is better than CD level).

Check the viscosity level label of the oil. At the same quality level, the greater the difference between the numbers before and after the viscosity level marked W, the wider the applicable temperature range, and the higher the performance of the oil.

How to use car lubricating oil (engine oil)?

The selection of engine oil is very particular, and car owners can consider the local highest and lowest temperatures, vehicle grade, and condition when choosing engine oil. If oil with excessive viscosity is used, it will increase the resistance to movement and affect the engine power; If oil with too low viscosity is used, it cannot guarantee lubrication quality and will exacerbate engine wear. For engines with severe wear and large clearances between mating parts, higher viscosity engine oil can be used to enhance the sealing performance of the mating parts. Simply put, it means choosing thinner engine oil for new cars, while using higher viscosity engine oil is better for cars with higher mileage.

Choosing engine oil does not necessarily mean that the more expensive the oil, the better its performance. If you are really unsure, you can refer to the car's "user manual" to choose it, and you will definitely not make any mistakes. But there is a principle that must be followed, which is that choosing engine oil can improve its quality, but cannot lower it. For example, the original loading oil is fully synthetic engine oil, which needs to be changed every 10000 kilometers. You cannot choose mineral oil, which needs to be changed every 5000 kilometers. This is obviously not suitable. In short, what suits you is the best.
